It didn’t take long for fireworks to erupt after the redraw as Wen Zhang took out two players simultaneously to put himself near the chip lead. Zhang flopped a set and had the action taken care of in front of him to effectively call off for his tournament life in a dream scenario.
With Zhang relaying the hand to us, Sean Byars opened for 50,000 under the gun and Michael Duerstock called from the cutoff. Zhang called on the button and the three players saw a Q♥J♠4♦ flop. Byars continued for 200,000, leaving himself about that much behind and Duerstock moved all-in for roughly 900,000.
Barely having Duerstock covered, Zhang called and Byars called as well. Zhang turned over 4♣4♠ and had Byars A♣Q♠ along with Duerstock A♠Q♣, drawing all but dead. The river was a brick and Zhang took in the pot to put himself up to nearly 1,900,000, putting him right next to Michael Marder for the chip lead.
