SugarRush (Day 2): Field In The Money, Gilliam Doubles On The Direct Bubble

Level 17 (4,000/8,000/1,000)
Total SugarRush Challenge Entries: 735
Players Remaining: 81
Chip Average: 258,000

Jon Gilliam was an untimely river card away from being the SugarRush Challenge bubble boy but found a double and is near the chip average as a result.

It took a while during hand-for-hand play to lose the 82nd player, but after a dozen hands of waiting, the SugarRush Challenge field is officially in the money. The 81 players left in the tournament have all secured themselves a trip to the payout cage and Jon Gilliam was on the verge on not joining them. Gilliam called all-in for his tournament life but lived to tell the tale and is now playing close to the chip average.

Gilliam opened for 18,000 from under the gun and Eric Suarez three-bet to 39,000 out of the small blind. Gilliam called the raise and the two players saw a flop of A108♣. Suarez checked and Gilliam bet 25,000, only to be check-raised all-in by Suarez.

With 85,000 in front of him, Gilliam could have folded and then coasted into the money so there was plenty for him to think about. Two minutes passed and Gilliam found a call with A♣Q, which had the A♠J of Suarez slightly pipped.

The Q♣ turn gave Gilliam two pair but Suarez was still live to hit a straight and make Gilliam the bubble boy. Gilliam breathed a sigh of relief when the 7 hit the river as he emerged from the encounter unscathed. For his part, Suarez falls back to 220,000 as post-money bubble play officially underway.
