Eric Suarez took the maximum risk against Wen Zhang and took down a sizable pot to move up the leaderboard.

As the late-great Amir Vahedi once said, “In order to live, you have to be willing to die,” and Eric Suarez just put that saying to maximum use by firing all three streets against Wen Zhang. Suarez put his tournament life on the line by the river and lived to tell the tale and is over 650,000 as a result.

Suarez opened for a standard raise from under the gun and Zhang called from two seats over to see a 5♣42 flop. Suarez continued for 50,000 and Zhang found a call. The 2♠ hit the turn and Suarez barreled for 105,000 more.

Zhang thought for a moment and called to the K river. Suarez moved all-in for 326,000 and Zhang was put to the test for most of his chips. Zhang sat silently in the tank for two minutes and decided to fold as Suarez raked in the pot.

With the win, Suarez is now among the top contenders in the SugarRush Challenge with 41 players remaining and Zhang sits at the chip average. A look at the current leaderboard is below.

Andrew Carnevale – 1,220,000
