SugarRush (Day 2): Tom Goshaw Hits Gin To Double

Level 16 (3,000/6,000/1,000)
Total SugarRush Challenge Entries: 578
Players Remaining: 70
Chip Average: 220,000

Tom Goshaw has reason to smile as he found a timely river card to double up and put himself back in contention for the SugarRush title.

The money bubble is officially busted and the remaining players in the SugarRush have all secured a payout ticket. Tom Goshaw was the odds-on favorite coming into Day 2 to make the money as he started play with the chip lead. Goshaw’s stack hit a downswing during the early levels but he has rebounded to back to 450,000 thanks in large part to a double through Dave Weiss.

With about 120,000 in the middle, Goshaw checked from the hijack to Weiss in the cutoff on a 65♠4♣8 board. Weiss put out a bet of 50,000 and Goshaw moved all-in for 167,000. Put to the test for the larger part of his own stack, Weiss thought for a few moments about what to do next and found a call with 10♣10♠.

Goshaw revealed 9♣8♠ and needed to hit one of his few outs to survive. Sure enough, the 7 hit the river to give Goshaw a straight and cripple Weiss. With his newfound ammunition, Goshaw is once again among the chip leaders. As it currently stands, Eric Doerr is out in front with 700,000.
