SugarRush (Day 2): Shhhh, Mermel’s Coming

Level 19 (6,000/12,000/2,000)
Total SugarRush Challenge Entries: 578
Players Remaining: 34
Chip Average: 449,000

Aaron Mermelstein was the last person to enter the SugarRush but is well-positioned to be among the last ones standing.

As the only player left in the SugarRush field with two World Poker Tour titles to his name, let alone one, it was only a matter of time before Aaron Mermelstein made his presence felt. Mermelstein bought in at the buzzer on Day 2 and has since escalated his 100,000 starting stack to its current stature of 510,000. As a result of busting a player with pocket aces, Mermelstein is at his peak for the day with nothing but a win willing to quench his tournament thirst.

Tom Goshaw opened for 28,000 from early position and found a call from the player on his direct left. Mermelstein squeezed the action up to 100,000 from middle position and Tom McMackin called all-in for his last 10,000 from the button. Goshaw and his neighbor folded leaving Mermelstein and his AA♣ to deal with McMakin’s 76.

The flop left McMackin drawing everything but dead and Mermelstein soon collected the rest of his chips. Mermelstein is plenty experienced in the end game stage of tournaments and has a chance to put that guile to use with less the 35 players remaining.
