SugarRush (Day 2): Aaron Mermelstein Surging After Buying In On Day 2

Level 15 (2,500/5,000/500)
Total SugarRush Challenge Entries: 628
Players Remaining: 83
Chip Average: 189,000

Aaron Mermelstein started his SugarRush Challenge midway through the early levels and has spun up his 100,000 starting stack to over 400,000 as the money bubble nears.

The unique structure of the SugarRush that allows for players to buy-in on Day 2 for 4x the Day 1 price but receive 4x the starting chips makes for an interesting dynamic for those who use this option considering their min-cash is a few steps higher on the pay ladder. Therefore, it is crucial to build a stack early to allow for a deep run.

Aaron Mermelstein is one of those players who bought in today and the two-time WPT winner is already up to 425,000. Mermelstein plays a unique brand of poker that allows for his accumulate chips quickly and he is living up to that brand so far today.

Picking up the action on a 10♣4♠2K♣8♠ board, Jeff Wicker had a bet of 16,000 in front of him from the hijack. Mermelstein cut out chips from the cutoff and put in a raise to 43,000. Wicker thought for a few moments and decided to call Mermelstein’s raise only to be shown KJ for a turned pair that left Wicker shaking his head as he mucked.

Mermelstein adding chips to his stack is a dangerous sign for the rest of the field and if he continues to acquire more units, we may very well see him deep in this event.
